The That ’70s Show actor was accused of sexual assault in 2017 and the sentence was decided this week.
This Thursday (7), Danny Masterson was sentenced to 30 years in prison, after being accused of raping three women between 2001 and 2003, when he was in the cast of That ’70s Show. The actor, who has continued to maintain his innocence, will be eligible for parole when he turns 77.
Of the three counts, the jury convicted him of raping two women in 2003, sentencing him to 15 years in prison for each. In sentencing him, Judge Charlaine Olmedo said: “Mr. Masterson, you are not the victim here. Your actions 20 years ago took away another person’s voice and choice. Your actions 20 years ago were criminal and that’s why you’re here.”
In his latest hearing, the criminal received the support of family members, including his wife Bijou Phillips, actress of Almost Famous, his sister Alanna Masterson (The Walking Dead) and his brothers Christopher (Malcolm In the Middle) and Jordan Masterson (Last Man Standing). Furthermore, colleagues also tried to help him.
According to court documents obtained by Variety, actors including Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, who worked with Danny Masterson in That 70s showhe wrote letters to the judge with statements that could help him reduce his sentence.
In Kutcher’s letter, he referred to Masterson as “an example.” Already in Kunis’ letter, she attested to the criminal’s “exceptional character” and called him an “extraordinary big brother figure.”
