Warner Bros. released this Monday (11th) an unprecedented teaser for Aquaman 2: The Lost Kingdom. Furthermore, he announced that the full trailer for the new film starring Jason Momoa will be shown for the first time next Thursday (14th).
Jason Momoa returns as Arthur Curry, Aquaman. The cast also includes Patrick Wilson (as Orm, the Ocean Master), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (the villain Black Manta) and Nicole Kidman (Atlanna).
Amber Heard also returns as Mera. The actress was almost replaced due to the lawsuit involving her and her ex-husband, Johnny Depp.
The sequel is directed by James Wan (Evocation), also author of the first Aquaman film. New cast members include Indiana Moore (Pose) and Pilou Asbaek (game of Thrones).
The film suffered a series of interference from Warner Bros. behind the scenes to avoid box office disappointment. Among the changes are the presence of two Batmans in the film and several reshoots to alter the film’s story. The latest took place in June this year, in New Zealand, and was approved by new bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The film was initially greenlit under the Warner regime led by former president Toby Emmerich and former DC Films chief Walter Hamada. Filming wrapped in January 2022, but months later both executives left their posts following the Warner-Discovery merger.
At the time of the departure of the managers, Aquaman 2 was in the midst of post-production and beginning test screenings. Shortly thereafter, Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy took over as bosses until David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, indicated the new name that DC Studios would carry – Gunn and Safran were announced later.
Under the leadership of the former duo, the appearance of Michael Keaton reprising his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman was scrapped and replaced by the return of Ben Affleck. But the current version does not include the presence of either Batman.
The outcome of the last shots would have been positive and the film was received with praise from the public who attended the new test screening.
