Anatomy of a Fall: This parallel to Johnny Depp-Amber Heard trial is ‘disturbing’

This fall’s success with Justin Triet’s Anatomy, Palme d’Or 2023, has already surpassed 750,000 admissions, making it the filmmaker’s biggest haul to date, ahead of Victoria.

Acclaimed by the public and critics, with a very high press rating of 4.4/5, Anatomy of the Fall is a dense and gripping film, including intense and lengthy trial scenes. Justin Trietti’s film keeps us in suspense until the last minute, with its suspense surrounding the resolution of the trial.

If, as Justin Triet has confirmed, Anatomy of the Fall is not based on true events, some people may have thought of a high-profile trial when watching the film.

During the presentation of the 2023 Palme d’Or, during our AlloCiné Club, Justin Triet spoke to the audience and agreed to let us know about the possible parallel of the trial of Amber Heard – Johnny Depp.

The Fall Anatomy script was already fully written and filming had begun when the trial took place. The filmmaker admits that we can definitely see a parallel.disturbing“.

“It was very surprising to see this trial in real life while we were filming– he told us. and added:Clearly disturbing“.

It specifies: “It was in the middle of filming the court scenes of the movie. The trial of Amber Heard and Johnny Depp was broadcast live from the United States. When I got home from the evening shoot, I almost watched it live. I actually saw parallels there.“

In Anatomy of the Fall, the defendant is particularly questioned about his morality and sexuality. Justin Triet qualifies by explaining that several viewers have asked him about a possible parallel between the two trials. “I didn’t say much about it“, he says.

He adds: “Reality is always much worse than fiction. During the trial, Amber Heard is extremely ill-treated. There is delusional misogyny at this trial. This taught me one thing: the reality is much worse, at least in the United States. Reality is completely beyond imagination. I could never write such a thing. I cannot create this depravity“, he emphasizes.

A few months ago, France 5 aired an episode of La Fabrique du lie (still available on repeat) that goes back to the defamation trial between the two actors.
