AlloCiné: The Nonne 2 is your third horror film. What attracted you to this project?

Michael Chaves : I think the character of the nun herself is scary and terrifying. I love the look. I love the creature, the character that James created. And I think so Bonnie AaronsWhoever played it, played it great.

AlloCiné: What was the biggest challenge of this film?

Probably a sequence of newspapers. This is a scene I envisioned very early on, when we were still working on the script. The nature of this sequence is that it looks like pictures.

The newsstand comes to life, the wind moves, the pages turn. This was the most difficult sequence we had to shoot for this film. It required a lot of mechanical devices, camera effects, as well as some visual effects to complete it. It was disgusting. I hope this makes you happy.

I think the nun is this perverted embodiment of faith. Absence of faith. That is why the demon took his form, to take that which has great power and overthrow it.

AlloCiné: Aside from the nun character, is there anything else in common with The Conjuring?

There is a common thread of vision. Irene, who plays Taissa FarmigaJust like Lorraine Warren in the Conjuring movies, played by her on-screen sister Vera Farmiga, has second sight.

Because people are sick and twisted (laughs). No, I think horror movies are great. I love horror. I grew up watching horror movies. It’s like a roller coaster you can take to the movies. The most affordable thrill rides. And this is universal.

I think people like to be scared and they like to be scared in a controlled environment. And I think that’s one of the reasons why the movie experience is so fun, is that you can be scared with other people and share that experience. And that just makes it more fun.
