Shining Vale: Courteney Cox leaves the asylum in the second season trailer

The American pay channel Starz has released the poster and trailer for the second season of “Shining Vale”, intensifying the dark plot involving the Phelps family. Launching last year, the series marked Courteney Cox’s return to TV, seven years after “Cougar Town” ended.

In the terrifying plot, the actress best known for the successes of “Friends” and the “Scream” series plays Pat Phelps, a successful writer struggling to write her next book. In search of peace and inspiration, she chooses to leave the big city with her husband and children, but her chosen residence is a place where terrible atrocities have occurred in a city in the interior of the United States. Although no one seems to notice that the house is haunted, she begins to see a ghost – which she swears is a muse – but could also be a symptom of schizophrenia or an evil demon trying to possess her.

After a season one finale full of twists, the series picks up with Pat being released from a mental hospital after attempting to kill his family with an axe. After being discharged, she resumes her career with a book about everything that happened, but has to deal with her husband’s amnesia after he was attacked by her. The near-normalcy, however, collapses when she starts seeing her ghost again, this time in corporeal form, as her entire family shares the visions of her.

Developed by Jeff Astrof (“Trial & Error”) and Sharon Horgan (“Catastrophe”), this female “version” of “The Shining” also highlights Greg Kinnear (“The Stand”) as her husband, Gus Birney (“Dickinson”) and Dylan Gage (“PEN15”) as the children, and Mira Sorvino (“Hollywood”) as the ghost.

The second season will debut on October 13 in the United States, but there is no release date in Brazil. The first season was made available in the country by Starzplay, which has become Lionsgate+ and recently announced it will leave Brazil at the end of the year.
