We finally have a small displacement sports bike in Brazil: the Yamaha YZF R15. I remember how enchanted I was, during my visit to Spain, by the quantity of models of this type available to motorcyclists of all ages.
2T era models
Also in the era of two-stroke engines were the Aprilia RS 50, 125 and 250 cm³, the Honda NSR 50 and 125 cm³ and 250 and the Yamaha YSR also in various displacements, just to name a few models, since there were still other brands present , Europeans such as the Spanish Derbi, Rieju and the Italian Cagiva, for example.
In Europe there has always been a great passion for the world of motorcycle racing, hence the large number of replicas of racing models, a delight for those who love sports bikes.
This type of motorcycle was also popular here, but we never had official examples with a displacement of less than 150 cm³, our models started from 250 cm³.

Sole representative
Yamaha is betting on differentiating its range with the YZF R15, which becomes the only representative of the low-displacement sports segment in Brazil.

This bike will also represent an important step towards the discovery of new talents in motorcycling as it will also be integrated with a single-brand cup, the Yamaha R15 bLU cRU Latin America, in the Brazilian Championship, dedicated to children aged 9 to 15.
Technology and sporty design
The project layout was designed to guarantee high performance for this low-displacement model. Many components of this model are the same used on larger displacement motorcycles, this guarantees excellent performance.
It is no coincidence that the design of the r 15 is completely identical to that of the R3, R6 and R1. Just look at it from the front and spot the air intake between the headlights which alludes to the design of the M1, from MotoGP. All the lines and the aerodynamic concept follow those of its bigger sisters.
The fairing with its side deflectors and air passages not only reduces aerodynamic drag but also helps to cool and dissipate engine heat. The gills on the tank and the air passages on the tail are details inspired by the bigger sisters.

The engine
The engine of this little sports car has received a fair amount of technology and is noteworthy. Among the components that improve the performance of the 155 cm³ single-cylinder, four-valve, liquid-cooled engine, the variable valve timing, the six-speed gearbox with smooth and assisted clutch and the exclusive Diasil technology stand out, with which the it is made of an aluminum and silicon alloy which, according to Yamaha, improves thermal dissipation and increases mechanical resistance in the friction between piston, piston rings and liner.

It’s a lot of fun to accelerate the R15, the responses of the small 155 cm³ engine are quite interesting and the 18.8 HP of power are at full capacity at 10,000 rpm, on the track you have to get used to always exceeding 8,000 rpm to fully exploit the possibilities of this engine, as the maximum torque of 1.5 kgf.m reaches 8,500 rpm.
It’s true that to drive at the limit, as required by those who love to accelerate on the track, an inattention that leaves the engine at idle can force you to downshift to regain speed.
In the simulation of urban use, it was possible to feel the good torque delivery at low and medium speeds, where the engine proves intelligent during take-off, thanks to the variable VVT control.

Cycling
The frame is of the Perimeter type and bears Yamaha’s Delta Box signature, a concept used in other models of the brand that also bear the R initials, such as the YZF R6 R1. According to Yamaha, the frame allows for greater torsional rigidity, improving the stability of the set.
The front suspension has conventional forks with 41mm diameter stanchions, the same size as those used on the FZ25. At the rear, the monoshock is attached to the Bela aluminum rocker arm via links.
In the test carried out on the Capuava circuit, inside San Paolo, the R15 chassis proved to be quite competent, offering a lot of stability both under sudden braking and in curves of different radius.
I confess that when I saw the Indian MRF tires I was skeptical, but instead they turned out to be a nice surprise, offering a lot of grip when driving on the track.

Brakes Yamaha YZF R15
The brakes are also very well sized and have not suffered any type of fatigue, at the front the 282 mm diameter disc has good grip with the two-piston caliper, at the rear the single-piston caliper is also glued. The R15 has ABS on both wheels.
The system has good sensitivity and plenty of braking power, only with some harder braking as the weight is transferred to the front did I feel the rear ABS kick in, proving it works well.
The R15 reminded me of the time when I wanted to race motorcycles and never lose sight of a sports bike. I know what kids who dream of riding a motorbike on the track feel when they come across a motorbike like this, it’s the chance to realize their dream of becoming a rider.

Comfort
Despite being a sports bike, it offers a good fit for the rider, its position not too loaded on the handlebars, which gives it a good level of comfort for those who intend to use it on a daily basis.
On the other hand, it also offers the possibility of a sporty touch, hidden behind the shell with the helmet glued to the tank, those who love trackdays know what I’m talking about.
Beautifully balanced and very pleasant to ride, the lightness and agility of the R15 help in riding, regardless of the rider’s experience, which is why it is a motorcycle that presents itself as an excellent option for those who want to enter the world of faired motorcycles . motorbike, but it is also suitable for the more experienced motorcyclist who wants to abandon the scooter or have a small and agile motorbike for everyday riding.
Another big draw of the Yamaha YZF R15 is the price, after all the R$18,999 (plus shipping) on the sticker is more than fair for this beauty. It is available in three colors: blue, silver and black which mixes glossy and matte.
It is certainly a bike that will make the dreams of many grown men and that of some lucky children who will be able to ride it on the track and take part in the races come true. Yamaha R15 bLU cRU Latin America.
It is not too much?
