The 2020 film follows two best friends, Bobby (Lonnie Chavis) and Kevin (Ezra Dewey), who are kidnapped and taken to a house in the middle of nowhere. As Bobby runs away, he hears Kevin screaming for help and realizes that he can’t leave his friend behind.

2. Under the Shadow (Netflix)

This shocking 2016 production is a psychological horror that follows Shideh (Narges Rashidi), whose building is hit by a missile during the Iran-Iraq war. One of his rather superstitious neighbors claims that the missile was cursed and could transport evil spirits from the Middle East. Shideh then begins to fight a supernatural power that is trying to take control of her daughter Dorsa (Avin Manshadi).

3. Broken Friendship (Globoplay)

This 2014 supernatural horror was the first feature film set entirely on a computer screen and follows the conversation of a group of teenagers over Skype. A year after Laura Barns (Heather Sossaman) committed suicide after a humiliating video was leaked, her childhood friend Blaire Lily (Shelley Hennig) joins a video call with her classmates to talk about prom year, but are accompanied by an unknown user. Blaire looks up the account name and discovers that it belongs to her friend who died.

4. Blair Witch (HBO Max)

The 1999 supernatural horror production tells the story of three film students who, in 1994, decided to make a documentary about a local myth, known as the Blair Witch. The three disappear, but their equipment and footage are found a year later and the found footage forms the film that the viewer sees.

The 2009 film follows handyman and ex-con Arkin (Josh Stewart), who plans to pay off a debt to his ex-wife by robbing his new employer’s country house. However, a much worse enemy was already on the property, where he had set several lethal traps, forcing Arkin to attempt to save the very family he intended to rob.

The 2007 production follows a couple on the verge of divorce as they return home after a family party. The problems begin when they make a wrong turn on a remote road. With no cell phone signal and their car broken down, they go to a nearby hotel, where they then find cameras hidden in their room. They realize that unless they escape, they will be the next victims of a snuff film.

7. Fear Therapy (Netflix)

The Brazilian film, shot in 2017 and released in 2020, follows the story of twins Fernanda and Clara (Cléo Pires), as one tries to save the other from the catatonic state resulting from a hypnosis session. This therapy, in fact, ends up trapping Clara in a supernatural universe, bringing to light a tragic story from the past. Her sister’s help may be her only chance to return to reality.
