Military plane crash kills 5-year-old girl in Italy

The pilot reported an engine problem and parachuted

A plane from the Italian military squadron Frecce Tricolori crashed this Saturday (16th) near Caselle airport, in Turin, hitting a car and killing a five-year-old girl.

There was a family on board the vehicle: in addition to the girl, Laura Origliasso, there were her father, mother and 12-year-old brother.

Everyone except Laura, who died at the scene, were taken to hospital.

His father, Paolo Origliasso, was discharged this Sunday morning. The mother is under observation and may need plastic surgery for the burns suffered on her arm.

The boy remains hospitalized, with burns on 30% of his body, but in stable condition and with psychological support.

The pilot saved himself by parachuting.

During the flight he notices an engine problem and reports it to control, announcing that he will leave the formation and activating the cabin ejection device.

One of the suspicions is that the plane was hit by a bird.

The aerobatic squadron, equivalent to the Brazilian Smoke Squadron, was there to participate, this Sunday (17), in an exhibition on the occasion of the centenary of the Air Force, which was cancelled.

In a statement, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Squadron General Luca Goretti, lamented: “on behalf of the entire Air Force, shocked and amazed by what happened, we are close to the family of the girl who was the victim of the plane crash.”

Before being discharged, Laura’s father, Paolo Origliasso, went over everything that happened several times and asked himself what he could have done differently, according to the hospital’s medical team.

The pilot, Major Oscar Del Do’, told his colleagues: “I am deeply saddened by what happened, I only think of little Laura”. He also reported that before ejecting from the plane, he tried to reposition the plane so that it would not hit the houses. .
