The character of Bernadete, in the telenovela Chocolate com Pimenta, was run over on September 2 in Rio de Janeiro. The accident occurred around 1.08 am, in Avenida Lucio Costa, number 4,700, near the Barra Bela condominium. Kayky was rescued by the firefighters and taken to the Miguel Couto hospital, in Leblon, in the southern area of the city. He was later taken to Copa D’Or hospital.

Updating her son’s health status this Friday, the mother celebrated: “My heart is about to explode. Thank God, without your presence I couldn’t do it,” Sandra wrote.

How did the accident go?

The collision occurred in the early hours of Saturday 2 September, around 1.08am, in Barra da Tijuca. The actor was hit by a car on Avenida Lúcio Costa and taken to the Miguel Couto municipal hospital, in the South Zone.

The app driver operating the vehicle was on duty and was carrying a passenger and a child. After the accident, he was taken to 16 DP (Barra da Tijuca), where the case was registered.

According to investigations, Kayky was with friends at the Dona Maria kiosk, in Posto 6, shortly before the accident. The actor Bruno de Luca was also there. At one point, Kayky left the bar to get something from a car parked near the shore.

When he returned, he crossed the street between cars, according to police. At that moment he ended up hit by the driver of the app, who was coming from Recreio towards Barra, in the left lane. Police do not yet know whether the man was driving over the speed limit.

Investigations and testimonies

In a statement to the police, the driver who hit the actor said Kayky suddenly ran across the road. He also said he tried to avoid it, throwing the vehicle into the right lane, but he was unable to avoid the collision.

• The passenger of the vehicle told the police that the driver was within the speed limit of the road, which was 70 km/h.

• The employee of the kiosk where the artist and his friend Bruno de Luca were, Edivan Martins, stated in court that the two did not appear to be drunk.

The most controversial statement was that of the actor Bruno de Luca. Kayky’s friend said that he did not know that he was the victim of the accident, as he had already said goodbye to his friend and had gone to the bar to pay the bill when the accident occurred. Although the images show Bruno’s desperation, he said he became desperate when he saw a person being thrown into the air. He said he was “terrified of accidents”.
