Since launching in 2017, Good Doctor has seen its share of departures. One of the most notable is that of Dr. Neal Melendez (Nicolas Gonzalez), whose death still haunts fans of the medical series.
And if some actors left the fiction led by Freddie Highmore without hope of returning, others sometimes return to the delight of the audience. This is the case of Chuku Modu.
The man who played Dr. Jared Kalu in the first season of The Good Doctor will indeed return to St. Bonaventure Hospital in episode 15 of season 6, which airs on TF1 this Wednesday, September 27, from 10pm.
The first episode of the first season of The Good Doctor featured Dr. Kalu alongside Claire Brown (Antonia Thomas). The character played a crucial role for Sean as he helped the young doctor integrate into St. Bonaventure Hospital.
Kalu was actually supportive of Sean, and Dr. Melendez was very strict with him because of his autism spectrum disorder. He quickly became some of her friends. However, Jared had trouble with a doctor who was sexually harassing his girlfriend, Claire Brown.
He was soon fired, but sued the hospital for racial discrimination. However, in the first episode of the second season, he accepted a position in Denver and therefore left the hospital.
Why did Chuku Modu leave the show?
Prior to the airing of the first episode of The Good Doctor Season 2, Deadline announced that the writers chose to part ways with Jared’s character in order to explore other avenues that were more interesting in their eyes.
In an Instagram post published on the evening of the first episode, the actor said goodbye to the medical series. “Nothing but love, love, love, love that I am filled with,” he wrote. “To know the good vibes and constant energy that is on set when the cameras aren’t rolling. Thank you all for teaching me more than I ever knew.”
After leaving The Good Doctor, Chuku Modu joined the cast of the post-apocalyptic TV series The 100 for the final two seasons. He also appeared in Captain Marvel, where he portrayed a Kree soldier named So-Lar.
Therefore, in episode 15 of season 6 of The Good Doctor, the actor returns. His character arrives at the hospital with Roland Barnes, a wealthy businessman who was injured by a tiger.
Jared, the latter’s personal doctor, participates in Barnes’ treatment and surgery. Thanks to Murphy, he realizes he’s going to miss the surgery and ends up asking to go back to the hospital. And good news for fans of the character, Chuku Modu will appear again in the rest of Season 6.
As of now, we don’t know yet if he’ll return for Season 7, which has already been ordered by ABC but has been delayed due to the writers’ and actors’ strike that’s still paralyzing Hollywood today.
Catch three new episodes of The Good Doctor every Wednesday from 21:10 on TF1. The first 5 seasons are available on Prime Video and Netflix.
