SPOILER ALERT! This article covers all sex education conspiracies. If you haven’t seen the series or the Season 4 finale, I suggest you read no further.
That’s it, sex education has finally closed its high school doors. The Netflix series wrapped up its fourth and final season, which was quite busy and wrapped up most of the major storylines started in previous seasons. Despite the massive departure of the cast at the end of season 3, the British series wanted to do everything right to give fans a proper farewell to Otis, Maeve, Eric, Adam, Aimee, Isaac and other Moordale graduates.
This final season offers a major change: Moordale students find themselves at a new institution, Cavendish College, while Maeve continues her studies at a prestigious university in the United States.
In the eighth and final episode of Season 4 of Sex Education, Otis agrees to end his relationship with Maeve after the latter decides to pursue her writing program in the United States. As for Eric (Nkuti Gatwa), he faces a dilemma of his own that has plagued him all season.
Meanwhile, Cavendish College is on high alert after Cal (Dua Saleh) goes missing after a difficult personal search. Jean (Gillian Anderson), on the other hand, is facing marital problems with her sister Joanna. And to manage all this chaos, Netflix is giving the Sex Education finale more time to resolve these many storylines.
Maeve and Otis break up
From the very beginning, Sex Education did its best to convince us that Maeve (Emma Mackie) and Otis (Asa Butterfield) were meant to be together. Season 4 is his last chance to make good on that promise, and that’s exactly what he’s been doing for most of his run. However, at the end of the season, the couple decides to separate.
Maeve’s decision to return to the United States reinforces her desire to leave Moordale forever, while Otis, on the other hand, is perfectly happy in their small town. They spend their first and last night together before Maeve leaves the country for good. The series ends with Otis reading a letter that Maeve wrote to him, effectively closing the door on any potential romance between them in the future. (But it’s a beautiful letter!)

Eric decides to become a pastor
Throughout season four, Eric struggles with his religion and sexuality. Being at a more liberal school like Cavendish allows him to express himself more freely. But even though he finds a new group of friends who understand and support him, he struggles internally to be baptized in his church. During his final encounter with God (played by Jodie Turner-Smith), Eric learns that his destiny is “Everyone should know this Love what isThis makes him embrace his calling and become a more inclusive pastor.

Otis and Eric reconciled
This episode is also an opportunity for Eric and Otis to mend their friendship. Their friendship has always been the central axis of the series. So it was hard to watch them conflict in Season 4. Amid miscommunication and individual problems, their problem emerges: Otis’s indifference to Eric’s struggles as a person of color, queer, and from a middle-class family.
While Sex Education could have explored this storyline more, it ends with the promise that Otis will be better at engaging in difficult conversations with his best friend in the future.

The future of Otis
Aside from his relationship issues with Maeve, Otis’ main arc in Season 4 revolves around having a rival sexologist in Cavendish O (Thaddea Graham). The rivalry between the two takes up a lot of time in the final season of the series, especially when it’s revealed that O has an ugly feud with Ruby that goes back several years.
However, in the finale, Otis and O reconcile and realize that they can both be good sexologists, working as a duo to provide sex therapy at the school. It’s a wish, but it’s unclear if they’ll actually come together.

Adam and his father reconnect
While largely separate from the rest of what happens in the rest of Season 4, the Netflix series still manages to say a satisfying goodbye to the Counts, the father, and the movies. After years of rocky relationships, Adam (Connor Swindells) and Mr. Groff (Alistair Petrie) finally begin to mend their relationship.
And it begins with Mr. Groff finally deciding to deal with his personal problems. This unlikely duo undoubtedly has one of the most touching scenes of Season 4, when Mr. Groff confesses to his son that he loves him. A big hug followed, which warmed our hearts.

Jean reconciled with her sister
Season 4 of Sex Education introduces Jean’s sister, Joanna (Lisa McGrillis), which leads to the revelation of their complicated relationship with their own mother. Although they are friends, it is clear that there is tension between the sisters, but this is finally resolved at the end of the series after a series of arguments, which culminates in another emotional sequence where Joanna confides her childhood trauma on Jean’s radio show.
Finally, the Season 3 mystery surrounding Baby Joey’s father is also resolved when it’s revealed to be Danny, a fairly random recurring supporting character on the series. Despite her biological connection to the newborn, Jean decides to raise her daughter alone, with the help of Joanna and Otis.

Aimee and Isaac as a couple
Before the story ends, the series introduces a new, unexpected love story involving Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood) and Isaac (George Robinson). The duo spend more and more time with each other as they both start dating Cavendish and this leads them to fall for each other.
However, their relationship is not without difficulties. First, they need to get the blessing of Maeve, who used to date Isaac. Next, and perhaps most importantly, Aimee must finally overcome the trauma of sexual assault. And thanks to Isaac’s patience and understanding, she finally finds the desire and confidence to start a new romantic relationship.

Ruby points under Otis
The best character of this season 4 is undoubtedly Ruby (Mimi Keane). She completes her redemption arc by being a force for good in the final season. Which way! Netflix also delved into its history, including past O. At the end of her sex education, she finally makes some real friends after being genuinely involved in her quest to find the tin. Seeing her surrounded by people who truly see her value is a great end to her arc, especially since it means she has a growing social circle beyond Otis.
Not everyone leaves sex education with a smug smile on their face, but everyone stays true to their truth. It may not be glamorous, but sometimes it’s better than an artificial happy ending.
