What if the solution to getting audiences to come back to see superhero movies in theaters is to make short films?
According to the AMC movie theater chain’s website, the next MCU movie, The Marvels with Brie Larson will run for 1 hour 45 minutes, making it the shortest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Released in 2019, Captain Marvel, the first movie centered around the superhero Carol Danvers, is 2 hours long. Thus, its sequel broke the record for the shortest Marvel film, ahead of Louis Leterrier’s The Incredible Hulk (2008) and Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World (2013), both of which last 1h52. The record for the longest film in the house of ideas is held by Avengers: Endgame and its 3h01.
Directed by Nia DaCosta, The Marvels brings together a trio of superheroes: Carol Danvers, played by Brie Larson, Kamala Khan – Miss Marvel (Iman Whelan) in the eponymous series, and Monica Rambo (Teyonah Parris), previously seen in WandaVision.
In this film, Captain Marvel must face the unintended consequences of her victory against the Kree. Unexpected effects now force him to bear the brunt of a destabilized world. During a mission that thrusts him into a strange vortex closely linked to the actions of Chris the Revolutionary, his powers collide with those of Kamala Khan – Miss Marvel – and her “niece”, Captain Monica Rambo, now an astronaut.
