At least 175 people were removed from the boat in Lampedusa
At least 175 people had to be evacuated from a ship in Lampedusa, Italy, due to a fire.
According to local authorities, the fire broke out in the engine room of the Diciotti ship in the middle of the journey to Porto Empedocle, Sicily.
The causes of the fire still remain a mystery, but will be investigated by the Italian police.
Of the 175 passengers, at least 83 were migrants transferred from Lampedusa. The flames were contained thanks to the safety systems.
The evacuation took place in the early hours of this Saturday (30th) to prevent the crew from waiting too long on the ship. .
