Drunk driver charged with double homicide in fatal crash

A 25-year-old man is responsible for the deaths of two women, one of them pregnant, in São Sepé

The Public Prosecutor of Rio Grande do Sul (MP-RS) reported, this Friday (29), the 25-year-old driver who caused a tragic accident on September 2 on BR-290, in São Sepé. The accident resulted in the deaths of two women, one of them pregnant. The driver was charged with double murder, three attempted murders and abortion without the consent of the pregnant woman, as well as fleeing from the scene of the first accident, which also caused damage.

According to the complaint by the public prosecutor Fernando Mello Muller, the young man was driving under the influence of alcohol, which would have impaired his psychomotor abilities. The accident occurred when he crashed his Montana truck into the back of an Uno, where the victims were. One, out of control, ended up colliding with a truck coming in the opposite direction.

The fatal victims were Roseli Andrade Schaff, 28, six months pregnant, and her mother-in-law, Dilma Aires Nunes, 60. The 39-year-old driver of the Uno, Roseli’s boyfriend, as well as two children aged 5 and 7 were injured in the accident. Roseli underwent an emergency cesarean section, but the baby did not survive.

The public prosecutor highlighted in the complaint that the driver had already been involved in another accident a few minutes earlier, where he too had fled without providing assistance, and was reported for this fact.

The charges include qualified homicide, attempted qualified homicide and abortion without the pregnant woman’s consent. The prosecutor argued that the driver “fully assumed the risk of causing the results” and asked that he be ordered to pay compensation to the injured and the families of the victims, as well as being banned from driving the vehicles.
