It’s back to school for Sohan, Elsa, Mehdi, Lia and Chloe, the final year students at Angela Duval Agricultural High School. Whether this course is chosen or strictly imposed, these young adults will learn mathematics and French, but also learn to drive tractors and care for animals.
If they’re spending their free time hunting in the desert or riding a die, Sohan, Elsa, Mehdi, Lia, and Chloe are all other teenagers. Between classes, these teenagers will have to juggle their dreams, doubts, disappointments and joys.
Produced by France TV Studios and Black Sheep Films, Déter, a new daily soap opera on the france.tv platform, plunges us into the heart of rural youth often forgotten in audiovisual fiction.
From the first episodes, the series establishes a real world and atmosphere that stands out from the daily soap operas already established in the French audiovisual landscape.
Obviously, what makes Deter unique compared to Un si grand soleil, Tomorrow Belongs to Us or Here It All Begins is the agricultural high school, farms and landscapes that the series draws me to. An arena that has never been explored before and that makes all the difference.
If tomorrow is ours, this is where it all begins and Un si grand soleil is located in the south of France, Deter has set up shop in Brittany, France’s leading agricultural region, to tackle the diversity of agriculture and livestock. . enough to enrich the world the series is building.
While it’s important to highlight this environment, which is relatively unknown to the general public, Deter primarily wants to give pride of place to the forgotten and stigmatized youth. So we follow Sohan, Elsa, Mehdi, Lia and Chloe, high school seniors who mostly want to be farmers.
Although they are at first glance a caricature, as we have a Parisian from the countryside, an it-girl or even a geek, these characters have real problems to defend. Attractive and modern in their construction, we enjoy meeting them and following their adventures throughout the episodes.
Mostly unknown, Bastien Savarino, Roma Mondule, Yanis Khiari, Jeanne Handschel and Alix DeHaus are simply excellent in their roles. Already lovable and promising young generation who are having fun and it can be felt from the screen.
While the characters will certainly have their share of drama, betrayal, and the soap’s signature secrets, Detter doesn’t forget the world in which he operates. Indeed, the series deals with issues related to this rural world and also indirectly evokes environmental themes.
With modern, dynamic and lively production and a rhythmic soundtrack, Deter clearly establishes itself as a soap opera with its own identity. The only downside: the length of the episodes, which are only 7 minutes long. A preferred manufacturing choice to better respond to the habits of 18-25 year olds.
Despite everything, the teams of this new program have succeeded in the crazy challenge of keeping a fascinating story in 7 minutes, which makes you want to see what happens next without going too fast.
So Deter has all the ingredients for success and seems more than ever to be a must-see this fall. A series not to be missed!
