Managed by the company ViaMobilidade, the branch suffered a fault in the electrical system; Previously, the governor praised the private management model for maintaining business during the public workers’ strike
Line 9-Esmeralda, operated by the company ViaMobilidade, partially works this Tuesday, 3, a St. Paulthe same day that a united strikeconvened by the employees of the Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM), the Companhia do Metropolitano de São Paulo (Metrô) and the Companhia de Saneamento Básico do Estado de São Paulo (Sabesp), paralyzes part of transport in the capital of Sao Paulo.
According to ViaMobilidade, a fault in the electrical system caused the suspension of operations between the Morumbi and Osasco stations. According to the concessionaire, to serve the public, the buses of the Support Plan between businesses in emergency (Country) have been activated and the companies’ technicians are working to ascertain the causes of the breakdown and normalize activities.
“The operation is normal between the Mendes-Vila Natal and Morumbi stations and in the section between Villa Lobos-Jaguaré and Osasco”, ViaMobilidade specifies in a note. “Passengers are guided by AAS (Presence and Security Officers) on trains and in stations,” the company added.
Strike
Tuesday’s united strike was approved by the employees of the three companies, who crossed their arms to protest against the plan of the Tarcísio de Freitas (Republican) management to privatize public companies. Interest in privatizing the metro and CPTM lines, as well as Sabesp, had already been announced by Tarcísio since last year’s election campaign.
Trade unionists argue that entrusting management to the private system could make services more expensive and of lower quality. The group cites, as an argument, frequent failures, such as slowdowns and derailments, precisely on the 8-Diamante and 9-Esmeralda lines, both managed by ViaMobilidade. The errors led to an increase in complaints from transport users and even to an investigation by the Public Prosecutor.
Sao Paulo, 3 October, 2.46pm – Due to a fault in the electrical system, the movement of trains on the 9-Esmeralda line is paralyzed between the Morumbi and Osasco stations. The PAESE maneuver buses have already been activated to serve the route.

In a press statement on the strike on Tuesday morning, Governor Tarcísio de Freitas criticized the union-organized movement and also praised the work of the concessionaires operating the lines not affected by the strike. Being privately operated, the 4-Yellow and 5-Lilac lines of the Metro and the 8-Diamond and 9-Esmeralda of the CPTM did not interrupt their activities due to the strike movement.
“It is precisely the granted lines that work. This only reinforces that we are in the right direction,” Tarcísio said before ViaMobilidade announced the electricity problem on the 9-Esmeralda line. “We will continue to explore concessions and it is not an illegal movement that will take us away from this goal,” said the governor, who also called the strike “abusive” and “political.”
“It seems ironic, if it weren’t tragic,” said Camila Lisboa, president of Metroviários. “On the day of the strike, the privatized line 9 stops once again due to a fault. Unfortunately, this is part of the daily life of users who depend on these lines. Privatization creates chaos every day in São Paulo,” they said the union leader. “That’s why our 24-hour strike is against privatization, to stop this chaos.”
