Sony announced on Tuesday (3) that it will produce a new animated series of Stuart Littlea classic of children’s literature that has marked generations, especially after the release of the films in the 2000s.
Betting on nostalgic productions, Sony has announced that it will also launch a new version of The Witch, a comedy series that aired between 1964 and 1972. The production became known for the magical “trinking up” act of the famous witch Samantha (played by Elizabeth Montgomery). The adaptation will follow the sorceress’ daughter, Tabitha, and “will combine the teenage adventures of Hannah Montana’s double life with the shenanigans of Harry Potter’s wizarding school”.
In the producer’s list of releases, in addition to other content for children’s distribution, there is also a reinvention of Wheel of Fortune, a popular game show broadcast in the United States for decades.
Our specialty, as one of the most prolific producers of children’s content in the industry, is bringing buyers next-generation, high-quality, successful children’s franchises, just as we have done for Netflix with Mysteries and Hilda and for Disney with Big Cat. Our distinct and diverse development pipeline has already generated initial excitement, and we look forward to continuing conversations with our buyers in the market.
Joe D’Ambrosia, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Sony Pictures Television – Kids.
These and other news should be announced in more detail by Sony during Mipcom Junior, an event that precedes the traditional Mipcom. The multimedia festival takes place every year in Cannes, France on October 16.
