The Good Doctor on TF1: Is Glassman’s Cancer Back?

Warning, the following paragraphs contain spoilers for the final episodes of Good Doctor Season 6. If you don’t want to know anything, move on!

Season 6 of The Good Doctor, which airs every Wednesday night on TF1, has been full of highlights.

Between Audrey Lim’s (Christina Chang) paralysis, Leah’s (Paige Spara) pregnancy, and the return of her ex-boyfriend Dr. Jared Kalu (Chuku Modu), these past few months haven’t been easy for Sean Murphy (Freddie Highmore). And he’s not going to calm down…

Glassman’s cancer back?

Even the most die-hard fans of The Good Doctor know: In the season one finale, Glassman (Richard Schiff), Shaun’s mentor, was diagnosed with an aggressive and potentially terminal form of brain cancer.

Fortunately, in the second season, doctors discovered that the cancer was actually curable with surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. And Dr. Glassman has been in remission ever since.

But in Season 6 Episode 17, which airs Wednesday, October 4 at 9:10 p.m., Sean will have serious doubts about his mentor’s health.

At the end of the episode, Shawn confronts Jared about his stitching technique. Their brain surgery patient received 8 stitches and experienced minor post-operative bleeding. According to Shawn, Jared had to close it with 10 stitches.

Dr. Kalu then explains to her that she is not responsible because it was Dr. Glassman who took care of the stitches. This means that his mentor, a world-renowned neurosurgeon, would make a rookie mistake. Could her cancer be back?

In the following episodes of Season 6, Shawn will investigate to discover the real reasons behind Glassman’s symptoms. And he will make a discovery that is surprising to say the least.

Although scans rule out a recurrence of the cancer, Shawn discovers that Glassman is actually suffering irreversible side effects from a mini-stroke.

This explains why his memory is impaired, especially during periods of intense concentration. The good news is that a neurosurgeon will not die. The bad news is that there’s a good chance he won’t be able to do the surgery.

Is Richard Schiff leaving?

If Glassman’s health is worrying, it doesn’t mean the character will leave the good doctor. When asked about the possible departure, Liz Friedman, co-showrunner of the series, said in an interview. TVLine That there was no question of saying goodbye to the doctor at St. Bonaventure Hospital.

In the Season 6 finale, he makes the decision to quit his surgical practice to become a consultant. He even goes so far as to advise Lim on the difficult procedure. It remains to be seen what the writers plan to do with this central character of The Good Doctor in Season 7, which has already been ordered by ABC.

Catch three new episodes of The Good Doctor every Wednesday from 21:10 on TF1. The first 5 seasons are available on Prime Video and Netflix.
