AlloCiné: Subscribers were surprised to see you Passengers 2. How did you join the cast of this Netflix movie?
Alessandra Sublette : I met the producer by chance at the Cannes Film Festival two years ago. He knew I was writing a one-off and asked me what I was up to next. I told him that I was going to do my show at the moment and I really didn’t know the rest.
And to be honest, I was very indecisive about wanting to play. Because in my 20 years in the profession, it has never been a calling. I never told myself “hey i want to be an actor”.
Five months after that meeting, he offered me this opportunity. I have already met Kerry James at my shows. We got along very well and that’s when he offered me this role as a lawyer.
How was the shoot, especially with Jame, Soulaymaan’s translator?
It was great because he had already acted in 1, he knew the casting very well. We were very free with that scene, we were able to generally do as we felt. We weren’t tied down to the script, and Leila Sy, who co-directed, and Kerry really gave us that freedom. That’s how cool it was.
We did a lot of filming and after a while I realized that this is how natural events came.
Even though you were approached directly for the role, was it still important to you to play in a film as committed as Banlieusards 2?
When I read the script, it obviously made sense. And it was all the more logical that this lawyer encouraged this young man to go further in life. So it resonated with me.
Now I don’t really look at what is happening to me (laughs). I didn’t even get a casting call. I think that’s what life’s surprises are all about. I am generally an instinctive person. The producer, Kerry James, Leila Sy, and I did it a little bit by gut feeling, and I think working on that kind of instinct suits me very well.

Also, do you have any other projects in film or television?
To be honest, I have some great suggestions, but the point is that I want to concentrate completely on the only stage I played in Avignon this summer, which is calledNot all risks will taste like success“.
It worked really well in Avignon and I have two months of dates in Paris in November and December. What I’ve explained to everyone is that I want to focus on that and then see what happens.
I want to take my time. For 20 years I worked continuously in a job that had nothing to do with this job. I never thought that I would go to the cinema in one night. Again, this was not a call.
But because I am instinctive and hardworking, I don’t want to do anything at any cost. And what’s more, I’ll tell you something, I think I’m the opposite of everyone. Theater attracts me more. When I make movies, if I read the script, I realize that there is something legitimate and coherent about it.
So there is nothing concrete at the moment?
No, I don’t want anything to happen now, because I really want to finish my two months in Paris. This is nothing. And I don’t want to accumulate a lot of things. Therefore, I decided to leave some time.
Last year, we saw you in a TF1 TV movie, with open arms, the end of which required a continuation. I know that the director Stephanie Pilonka, was ready. will this happen with you, without you?
I had this experience because it was Stefan who was a great pleasure to work with. I’d be lying if I told you that this experience didn’t help me realize that I might actually have something to do with it. To be honest, I wouldn’t consider repeat TV right away. Maybe they will make a sequel, I don’t know.
The comments were collected on October 4 in Paris.
