Soteldo goes from retirement to protagonism and becomes a fundamental player for Santos in the fight against Z4

Striker Soteldo is experiencing a special moment with the Santos shirt. After going through a turbulent period, the Venezuelan has found good football again and has returned to being a protagonist of the Juventus team.

Just over three months ago, the scenario was very different. The player was dismissed by the team’s then coach, Paulo Turra, for an act of indiscipline. He started training separately from the group and was absent from the team for six games.

Under Aguirre’s command, the athlete regained his morale and returned to the team. His “re-debut”, however, was frustrating. He came on in the second half of Santos’ 4-0 defeat against Fortaleza, at the Arena Castelão.

Soteldo’s redemption comes in the next match, against Grêmio. Called onto the field in the final phase, with Peixe behind the scoreboard, he was decisive in the comeback with two assists, one for Marcos Leonardo and another for the Argentine Julio Furch. From that moment on, the number 10 once again became popular with the fans.

The athlete’s return to Baixada Santos has already passed more than a year, but he has not yet managed to find the net. In total there were 29 matches in this second period, which until then had been marked by a series of injuries and controversies.

Back in the spotlight, Soteldo became an extremely important player for Peixe in the fight against relegation from the Brazilian league. With the last two victories the team has risen to 15th place in the standings, with 27 points earned. The distance to the Z4 is just one point.

Santos’ next opponent is Palmeiras, but the team will not be able to count on Soteldo, who is absent due to suspension. The classic is scheduled for this Sunday, at 4pm (Brasilia time), at the Arena Barueri, for the 26th round of the Brasileirão. The team seeks a third consecutive win under Marcelo Fernandes to move further away from relegation.
