The big boys of the Expendables saga return on October 18 for their fourth adventure on the big screen. On this occasion, we present to you an amazing anecdote that comes to us from across the Rhine. Did you know that in the German version of the first three films of the franchise, it is the same dubbing actor who voices Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger?
A very big name in dubbing in Germany, Thomas Danneberg, who died on September 30 at the age of 81, regularly provided the voice for Sly and Schwarz, notably in the Rocky, Rambo and Terminator sagas. So when two people whose rivalry began with throwing flowers faced off for the first time in The Expendables, Danneberg doubled down on… BOTH!
With Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger sharing several scenes in the Expendables saga, Thomas Danneberg had to do some vocal work to tell them apart. Thus, the German gave Stallone a low and gruff voice, while Schwarzenegger got a much lighter syllable. Note that in Evasion, another collaboration between the two legends of action cinema, Danneberg only voices the first name.
Thomas Danneberg, who had a modest career as a “physical” actor, began his career in the dubbing industry in 1964. An impressive career, because in addition to Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, the German voted for John Travolta (especially on Saturday). Night Fever, Grease and Pulp Fiction), Dan Aykroyd (especially in Ghostbusters), Rutger Hauer, John Cleese and Terence Hill. Thomas Danneberg stopped working as a voice actor a few years ago due to health problems.
Sylvester Stallone, who recently spoke about his incredible longevity, will starExpend4bles on October 11.
