It was announced for 2020, but it’s still waiting since… Tiana, the animated series adapted from the Disney classic The Princess and the Frog, is still in the works for Disney+ and we finally have news via variety.
We’re now learning that we’ll be bringing the series to Disney+ next year, according to Joyce Sherry, showrunner and series director. A 180° turn for the screenwriter who previously worked on Mike Flanagan’s horror series Midnight Sermons. He has also written and directed several short films.
The series was previously described as a sequel to the 2009 animated film The Princess and the Frog, which introduced the character Tiana. Annika Noni Rose (seen in the flesh on The Good Wife and The Power among others) will once again provide her voice for the character of Tiana, who “Embark on a grand new adventure as the newly crowned princess of MaldoniaBut soon a call from his past in New Orleans throws him off course.
The series was originally slated to premiere in 2023, but is now expected to begin in 2024. Nathan Curtis will executive produce the series, with Jennifer Lee and Stella Magee serving as executive producers.
Disney+ has also announced sequels to film series such as Zootopia, The New Heroes, Cars and Moana. The first three have already been broadcast, while Moana, a series set in the small Polynesian village of Waianae, is still waiting to start, as is the live-action remake of the film with Dwayne Johnson, which is still in production.
