It’s official: the screenwriters’ union validates the agreement with the studios and puts an end to the strike

The Hollywood Screenwriters Guild (WGA) ratified on Monday (9) the agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents film studios in the United States. This officially ended the category’s strike, which lasted 148 days: with the support of the Actors’ Union, the movement became the second largest in history.

The main points of the strike include salary renegotiation in the face of inflation, ordering television series with shorter seasons and non-payment of residual earnings.

The use of generative AI to rewrite or adapt texts has also been discussed, with professionals calling for regulation of the technology – even the acting class discusses the topic.

This was the second largest strike in the history of the WGA, starting in May and gaining support from the Actors’ Union (SAG) in July: they were also demanding improvements in their working conditions.

When the new agreement was announced, the SAG congratulated the WGA, but stressed that it will remain on strike until negotiations with AMPTP are concluded.
