The Exorcist: New trilogy should be maintained even with negative reception of The Devotee

The Exorcist: The Devotee arrives in Brazilian cinemas starting this Thursday, October 12th

The Exorcist: The Devotee arrives in Brazilian cinemas this Thursday, October 12th, under heavy lead. Production, which is a sequence of The Exorcistlong William Friedkin released 50 years ago, it had a negative reception from critics and the public and currently boasts a rating of 23% from journalists and 58% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, even with the lower-than-expected return, Universal Pictures should not give up on the new horror trilogy, which is led by David Gordon Green (Halloween) and already has a sequence, The Exorcist: Deceiver (The Exorcist: The Deceiverin free translation), confirmed for April 2025.

According to information from the The Hollywood ReporterUniversal would have spent US$400 million on acquiring rights to the franchise, not only to produce the trilogy, but to use the brand in other commercial actions.

Still, the studio must review the script for the second film before proceeding with production, to ensure that the sequel performs better. Until now, The Exorcist: The Devotee has already raised US$46 million worldwide, according to Mojo Box Office.
