Directed and co-written by Charlene Favier, whose feature debut Slalom was selected in Official Competition at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival, The Girl We Called is a feature film by Alba Gaia Belluji, a young actress seen in Manon, The Legends. The Office and more recently Into The Night.

For the occasion, he stars opposite Pascal Gregory (La Reine Margot, Jeanne du Barry), who plays the violent mayor Quentin Le Barry. The young woman’s father is played by Jean-Pierre Martins, who notably stepped into the shoes of boxer Marcel Cerdan in Olivier Dahan’s La Môme.

Patrick D’Assumsao (Police 1900, Tap), Anne Suarez (Zone Blanche, Cain) and Omar Mebrouk (who plays Karadek’s brother in HPI) round out the cast.

Adapted from Tang Viel’s 2021 novel, Charlene Favier presents The Girl We Called, a powerful drama about control. “I was the girl they call me“… These are the words that Laura Corret, who came to the police to file a complaint against Quentin Le Bars, introduces herself to the police.

Recently a minister, the man had long been the mayor of the small town in which Laura grew up and where she had returned to live after several years of hardship in Paris. Hosted by her father Max, the mayor’s driver and former boxer, she agrees to go to a meeting with the town councilor to get housing.

Perceiving in the behavior of a young woman all the characteristics of a simple predator, he asks one of his subordinates, the manager of a local casino, to give Laura one of the studios in his establishment. However, this kindness is not free.

It is through the statement that Laura Coret gives to the police that Charlene Favier and her co-author Antoine Lacomblez (Jeux d’influence, Laetitia) reveal the mechanisms of control and domination that make her character a powerless and willing victim.
