Brazilian Cinema Grand Prix: ‘Marighella’ is the film with the most nominations; see list


The industry’s biggest accolade returns in face-to-face format, with a ceremony in Rio de Janeiro on August 10

THE Brazilian Academy of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts has just published the list of finalists of the 21st Brazilian Cinema Grand Prix. marghelladirected by Wagner Moura, it is the feature film with the most nominations, 17, including best feature, Best First Director of a Feature Film, Best Actress for Adriana Esteves e best actor for Bruno Gagliasso and Seu Jorge, who plays the title character. Secondly, it is The silence of the rainby Daniel Filho, nominated in 11 categories, including best direction.

This year’s edition marks the return to the face-to-face format, which has been held practically in the last two years due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the return to Rio de Janeiro, after three years spent in Sao Paulo. The ceremony will be held in City of Artson 10 August, broadcast live on TV by Brazil channelas well as YouTube and Instagram of Accademia. The party is directed by the visual artist Batman Zavareze and screenplay by Abrantes child.

The finalists of the Brazilian Cinema GP compete in 31 categories and were chosen by vote from the members of the Academy. “This edition will be more representative, as it will mark the face-to-face meeting of the entire sector to celebrate our audiovisual”, says Jorge Pellegrinopresident of the Brazilian Academy of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts.

The 2022 shortlist brings together more than 200 nominated professionals, 17 Brazilian feature films and 10 foreign feature films. Overall, 15 Brazilian shorts and 18 series are also in the running this year.

or Brazilian Cinema Grand Prix it is voted by professionals from the most diverse areas of the sector who are part of the Academy, an institution open to the whole class. And, like every year, the opening of the envelopes with the winners will be verified by PwC (the same one that does the Oscars).

In 2022, more than a thousand professionals were registered in the different categories, 53 fictional features (including children and animation), 33 documentary feature films, 61 short films, 40 Brazilian series, 35 international feature films, 11 Ibero-American feature films. The winners will be chosen in the second round, which begins on June 20, with a vote among the members of the Academy.

There will also be a public vote on a date to be announced shortly and which will choose the favorite film among the Brazilian fiction (drama and comedy) and documentary finalists.
