Lamashtu
The demon that preys on young girls in the film is a Mesopotamian figure named Lamashtu, who according to the ancients is a bloodthirsty demon that primarily attacks newborns. It took special effects makeup artist Christopher Nelson six months to imagine Lamashtu, design and sculpt his actors. Her role is played by Liz Johnston.
