What is it about? After his pregnant wife lost her life in the Haiti earthquake twelve years ago, Victor Fielding raises their daughter Angela alone. One day, Angela and her friend Katherine disappear into the woods, only to reappear 72 hours later, with no memory of what happened to them… Since then, strange events follow and Victor must face the terrifying forces of evil. Desperate and terrified echoes the only person alive who has ever witnessed such events: Chris McNeil.
50 years later
In 1973, William Friedkin’s “The Exorcist” was released, which left a generation of viewers with lasting trauma. Based on the 1971 novel by William Peter Blatt, the film broke box office records and launched the career of a young Linda Blair. This monument to horror cinema is the first horror film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Two sequels (The Exorcist 2 – The Heretic, The Exorcist III), as well as a prequel (The Exorcist: In the Beginning) and a TV series will see the light of day.
The return of the legendary actor
For the first time since The Exorcist, Oscar-winning actress Ellen Boorstyn reprises her role as Chris McNeil in The Exorcist – Devotion, a character haunted by the trauma her daughter Regan suffered fifty years ago. “Without Ellen, the movie wouldn’t exist”, explains producer David Robinson. Jason Bloom adds: “Having Ellen Boorstyn in this film provides a very close connection between this new opus and Friedkin’s work. For all fans – starting with me! – it is very satisfying.”. David Gordon Green has been trying to convince Ellen Burstyn to participate in the project for some time.
If he agreed to participate in this new opus of the franchise, it is partly because of the money he received for this film. But it wasn’t about greed! Very involved in the Actors Studio, of which he is co-president, he put his stamp on the organization: “It was an opportunity to create a scholarship for talented young artists who cannot afford to pay for Actors Studio courses, it was a real desire on my part, and I realized that I had found a solution to this problem.

in the given interview The Hollywood ReporterIt details with full transparency: “I turned down many versions of The Exorcist 2. I turned it down every time. This time they offered me a lot of money and I turned it down again. Then they surprised me and came back with double their offer. It was a lot of money. I needed time to think. The thought that came to me was : “I feel like the devil is asking me for my price.” Then I said to myself, “My prize is a scholarship program for gifted students at Pace University’s graduate program. Here’s my prize’. So I went back and raised the money and got what I wanted. And I had a scholarship program for young actors.’
It is a direct continuation
Similar to the last Halloween trilogy he directed – which relied solely on John Carpenter’s original 1978 film – David Gordon Green conceived The Exorcist – Devotion as a sequel to the 1973 feature film. Producer Jason Blum explains that it is “A modern retelling that touches on some of the themes of our time: A father raising his teenage daughter alone finds a whole community of people ready to help him that he honestly never believed could matter. one day. This film combines the characters and narrative elements from the first film that horror fans will love.”

Lamashtu
The demon that preys on young girls in the film is a Mesopotamian figure named Lamashtu, who according to the ancients is a bloodthirsty demon that primarily attacks newborns. According to the Harvard Library Bulletin, “During the first millennium BC, Lamashtu was most often depicted with the head of a lion and the body of a woman with claws on its feet.”
It took special effects makeup artist Christopher Nelson six months to imagine Lamashtu, design and sculpt his actors. Her role is played by Liz Johnston.
