Robert Pattinson’s powerful account of fear of humiliation

Actor from the Twilight saga and The Batman is afraid of being unemployed even after so many successful jobs

Robert Pattinson He began his acting career as a teenager, in theaters. Before he was 20, he was already cast for Harry Potter and the Goblet of fire (2005), fourth film in the franchise. Since then, he has accumulated a series of cinematographic works, whether in blockbusters or independent features.

Still, he struggles to deal with rejection and, especially, humiliation. It could be a trauma due to the criticism that accompanied his successful work in the saga Twilightbut it is a fact that Pattinson has this fear — and talks openly about it.

Also famous for having starred Batman in 2022, the star reflected on the subject in an interview with Interview Magazine(via IndieWire). On that occasion, he would answer if he had already taken on a role that he didn’t believe in.

“I have a very deep fear of humiliation. And also, you kind of know it’s up to you. You can say it’s a shitty script, that the director is an idiot or blah, blah, blah, but at the end of the day, no one will care about the reasons. You are the one that everyone will say is bad. And the vast majority of people will say you are lame, even when you tried your best.”

The insecurity of Robert is latent because he thinks that, even after so many praised performances, he runs the risk of being out of work.

“That’s how I see everything. I’m constantly thinking that I’m going to spend most of my life unemployed and desperate and feeling like a total failure. I think life is like that. I think that’s just part of it.”

Finally, the actor noted:

“You’re at your peak most of the time you’re doing a job and you’re employed for three months. This is the most stressful thing in the world.”

Robert Pattinson and the work

The concern of Robert Pattinson with its volume of work has already been represented at other times. During a 2020 interview with GQfor example, he said that he would need to expand his career to include more commercial films, as he had been acting in independent works.

“I started last year without a job. I was calling my agent and thinking — I got good reviews for some of my performances — and I thought, ‘What the f##k? I thought it was a really good year and I’m starting 2020 like I just did a lot of bad things.”

The question lay precisely in the type of feature film he committed to.

“The problem I was discovering was that, as much as I loved the indie films I was making, no one was seeing them. And so it’s a scary thing, because I don’t know how viable this is for a career. I don’t know how many people there actually are in the industry who are willing to support a film without any commercial viability.”
