In the next issue of Green Lantern #6, the rampaging Red Lantern Corps has a new recruit who will be its most powerful member.
Since the Geoff Johns era revamped the Green Lantern mythology in the mid-2000s, DC Comics has featured multiple troops, with each color representing a different aspect of the emotional spectrum in the universe. The Emerald Gladiators, for example, transforms willpower into solid images in the form of green constructs; The Red Lanterns draw their powers from the force of hatred and fury.

Beware of spoilers for Green Lantern #6!
And DC will introduce a new Red Lantern, who already promises to be its most powerful member: Sinestro, the former Green Lantern who managed to create his own Sinestro Corps, creating his own battery capable of generating fear-based yellow rings . It is not yet known exactly why he will change color, check out the publisher’s announcement:
“HAL JORDAN VS. SINESTRO – NOW MORE DANGEROUS THAN EVER! It all comes down to this! Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern of Earth, finally faces his former mentor, Sinestro, whose power to instill fear has been replaced by a rage that could destroy the world. planet he once swore to protect.”
Introduced during the preparation of the saga The darkest night, in 2009, the Red Lanterns represented anger and fury and were led by the fearsome Atrocitus, the first to gather and utilize the power of red light. When he wears a Red Lantern ring, the user abandons their humanity and completely surrenders to wrath, and many members of this group are known for spitting red, acidic bile at their victims.

Sinestro’s transition to Red Lantern, while most likely not permanent, comes at the right time, as the Red Lantern Corps has been somewhat absent in recent years. Resuming his stories with a well-known name could be a good move to revitalize him: in fact, the new phase of the Green Lanterns has already better organized the repositioning of every element that was successful in the famous Johns phase.
We’ll learn more about Sinestro’s shift to the red side of the emotional spectrum in Green Lantern #6, which hits foreign newsstands on December 12.
