Investigated by sports betting, Tonali risks at least a year in prison.
Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali could risk at least a year’s ban due to sports betting he allegedly made while still playing for AC Milan. According to information from the newspaper “La Gazzetta dello Sport”, the player also bet on the matches of the Italian club. The case is now under investigation by the Public Prosecutor.
Tonali released a statement this Tuesday (17), and spent around two and a half hours with the authorities, according to information in the Italian press. Last Monday (16th), Marco Feno, the player’s lawyer, showed up at the Prosecutor’s Office to communicate his client’s full availability to contribute to the investigations.

Even if Tonali’s bets on AC Milan matches do not have a direct influence on the results of the matches, the player runs the risk of staying away from the sport for at least a year. The Italian authorities do not tolerate players and coaches placing bets on football, especially if it concerns the clubs they belong to.
Tonali spent three seasons at Milan and achieved great prominence with the Italian team, where he won the Italian Championship title. The player is now in Newcastle, England. To date, Tonali has played ten matches for Newcastle and scored one goal.
