It’s been a while since we heard about the Honda RC-E, however, this motorcycle born as a concept has not been forgotten by the Japanese brand. This is because a patent application has been filed in the foreign country for a neo-retro style electric version.
At the Tokyo Motor Show, held in 2011, exactly 12 years ago, this prototype appeared, which was a 1960s-inspired retro design track bike containing a battery-powered electric motor.
In this sense the current record is linked to the rear suspension system. It is common for the manufacturer to use a previous prototype as the basis for new attempts, however, in this case the suspension system is an essential part of the machine, indicating that the project is still alive.
Details of this possible Honda
It should be noted that in the 2011 version a classic layout has been foreseen with the shock absorber positioned between the upper part of the swingarm, in front of the rear wheel, and a central support on the frame.
Therefore, in this new patented version, the engine is mounted in such a way as to leave space between the monoshock absorber, inserted on the left side, connected to one of the swinging arms and the corresponding frame beam.

As a result, the result indicates a straight line connecting the steering head, the swingarm pivot and the rear wheel axle, although the suspension does not appear to work as efficiently.
And there’s more
The most important thing of all this is that Honda has resumed work on this prototype, and the drawings also illustrate a detailed study of the placement of the batteries, 3 of which are called B1, B2 and B3 respectively.
The first is placed under the dummy fuel tank, the second between the spars themselves, while the third was built so that it can be inserted into the fairing.
Cooling is liquid, with a radiator in a conventional position, behind the front wheel. Like all patents, it’s not certain that either the suspension or the bike itself will be made, but the fact that Honda is still working on it even 12 years after the first announcement indicates that Japan is seriously considering putting this model into production.
Let’s wait!
