
Paramount has closed with Chris Miller, director of “Shrek the Third” (2007) and “Puss in Boots” (2011), the project for a new animated film of “The Smurfs”. In collaboration with Nickelodeon Animation, the cartoon will be a musical.
The announcement is part of the presentation of Paramount and Nickelodeon at the Annecy Festival, considered the Cannes of animation, which will last until Saturday (18/6) in France.
The screenplay was written by Pam Brady (“South Park”) and production will begin later this year.
Created in 1958 by Belgian cartoonist Peyo (pseudonym of Pierre Culliford), the cute blue creatures acquired the rights from Nickelodeon, after making two live action films and one animation at Sony.
