As always tomorrow is ours, the weeks follow each other and are always full of twists and turns for the heroes of our set.
A few weeks ago, during the La Rochelle Festival of Fantasy, Théophile Clement, series producer, and Isabelle Régourde, series artistic producer, returned to us with this outstanding 7th season opening Agnes Varda explosion. Also the arrest of Tiger Rose’s killer, but also what lies ahead in the coming weeks.
Allociné: What exactly is the difference between the positions of producer and feature producer? How are the roles distributed?
Theophilus Clement : To summarize, I am very close to authors, text, post-production and channel. Isabelle Regour is involved in the filming in Sète, the management of all artistic teams and everything related to communication as well as the image of the series. This is the overall picture of the series.
Isabel Regourd : Instead, we both take care of the casting.
Theophilus Clement : We do many things together. Casting, costumes, sets. We talk to each other about all this.
You started off Season 7 by making a big splash by destroying a high school in two special episodes. How did the idea for this arch come about? Did it really all start with the city of Sete wanting to rebuild the college, which was the site of a higher education?
Theophilus Clement : We didn’t have to and could change it like the first time. But it’s true, with Cluedo or even a plane crash, there’s still a desire to go further. In fact, it came from the props and scenery teams who told us, “We just need to expose him to high school. We can do it“. The authors agreed. Every time we make a special arch, we make it better.
Disaster plots have indeed become a trademark of Tomorrow Belongs To Us. Already have an idea for the next one?
Isabel Regourd : No, especially since we already had a few this year with Cluedo, the plane crash and the high school explosion.
The consequences of the explosion were significant for the characters and especially for Francois (Emmanuel Moir). We are coming to the end of the François-Charles couple (Clemens Lassalas)
Isabel Regourd : This will be a roller coaster ride. And it’s not over!
Will Clemens Lassalas leave the series?
Isabel Regourd : He’s still with us, so for now, no.
Vanessa (victory doxer) recently returned to the series. Did you know from the spring plot that she would come back pregnant?
Isabel Regourd : Yes, we knew! We love this character who brings so much.
Theophilus Clement : It was interesting that Vanessa’s pregnancy was not immediately visible. We wanted the audience to doubt and wonder if he was telling the truth.
Isabel Regourd : It’s great that you can treat pregnancy in a prison environment. And then, the fatherhood of Georges (Mayel Elhajaoui), his relationship with Mona (Catherine Benguig) and the decision he will make are interesting. This is an intrigue that will last for several months.
Can we consider this arch the final act of Vanessa’s reign of terror?
Isabel Regourd : He is not going to leave the prison on Wednesday morning (laughs).
Theophilus Clement : It is quite interesting what pregnancy will bring to Vanessa. I think in four years, when the show is still a ratings success, we’ll have a kid who has to explain that his mom is a serial killer. It’s great in a soap: What do you say to a kid whose mom is in jail? There is a lot to be said through this story.
What about the following stories?
Theophilus Clement : We will have soap bars of different durations. This is one of the new developments from Nicolas Brossett, the director of the collection, which really brings two things. The first is to connect the intrigues together, and after three months there is an impact. He calls this the white stone strategy.
And the second is that he changed the timing of the ark. The first few seasons were four-week arcs. Today we have two-week, three-week, week-and-a-half arches. This allows us to blur the lines a bit and make revelations, highlights and even twists less predictable. A lot of little stories happen.
Isabel Regourd : All of our characters will be affected. There is also equity around our recurring items. This affects both Delcours and Danier, the police station and even the hospital.
On the Delcourt side, are there any strong intrigues?
Isabel Regourd : There will definitely be intrigue, but it will be a common theme throughout the year.
Theophilus Clement : After a high school explosion, they will have questions about life. What’s pretty cool at this point is that they’re being reinvested like they were at the beginning of the series. Ingrid has always been a bit of a companion to the A arches. We will return to this in a bit. He will deal with issues that do not necessarily concern him personally, but he will always be connected to the arches. And there will be great intrigue surrounding the Delcourts as a whole family.
As for the new high school, will Chloe be the new principal?
Isabel Regourd : With everything going on, Chloe has a lot of questions. He won’t transfer right away, which will give him time to think about it. He will help Alex a lot on the farm.
With the arrival of Violet (Salome Benita) then recently from the Philippines (Patricia Thibault), are you planning to make the Juilliard family a full-fledged family in the series?
Isabel Regourd : Yes, but it won’t become a family right away. Violet must relearn how to find her brother and mother. And the Russians will be the glue of all this.
Should we expect a forbidden romance between Jordan and Violetta?
Theophilus Clement : I think the authors haven’t decided yet. Obviously, Violet is expected to have emotions because she’s already at an age where she has them.
Isabel Regourd : These are children of the same age who are not related. There is no written intent in any case.
