What happens before Pirates of the Caribbean? The film answers, but almost no one has seen it

You know that short film that takes place before the first movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean saga? Titled Pirates of the Caribbean: Tales from Cody: In Marriage, it was filmed on the set of the Jack Sparrow franchise and released to the public in 2011.

The story follows Scarlett (Lauren Maher) and Giselle (Vanessa Branch), two women who are about to get married and think the other is a surprise guest, only to discover that they are married to Jack Sparrow. They find themselves involved in a mysterious auction of which they are the victims!

• The Pirates of the Caribbean actor did not have a good time in the saga!

Scarlett and Giselle, of course, appeared in the first three parts of the saga, generally to beat up Jack Sparrow! These are small roles each time, most often in the register of comics.

The famous pirate and his flexible hips only appear in The Curse of the Black Pearl, the first feature film in the saga, Tales of the Code: Wedlocked, which connects the given scenes.

This short film is directed by James Ward Birkitt, who wrote the screenplays for the first three Pirates and Rango, all directed by Gore Verbinski. It’s written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, regular writers of the franchise, and that’s why we get a lot of winks in there, especially David Bailey as “Cotton” seen in the first film.

James Ward Birkitt recounted the origins of this short film A fan blog :

I was on set, amazed by the work of Rick Heinrichs (production designer on Saga), and I said to Gore, ‘We should make a feature film in our spare time’, and he gave me the green light! So I asked Ted Elliott and Terry Rocio if they had an idea for a short film based on The Pirate Code.

“They thought of Vanessa Branch and Lauren Maher. Young women needed to have their own story, and we started writing Wedlocked. The DVD department gave us some money to build a team, hire a 16mm camera and shoot in three days. The cast turned out incredible.”
