Omar is back in Elite on Netflix! We explain why

Warning, spoilers. The following paragraphs will reveal plot elements from Season 7 of Elite.

Although absent from Elite since the end of season 5, the iconic character of the Spanish series created by Dario Madrona and Carlos Montero returns for the seventh season available on Netflix.

This is the character of Omar, played by actor Omar Ayuso. The 25-year-old actress returns to walk the corridors of Las Enchinas with the protagonists Isadora (Valentina Zenere), Ivan (Andre Lamoglia), Sara (Carmen Arufat), Raul (Alex Pastrana), Didac (Alvaro de Juana), Nico (Ander Puig) and Sonia (Nadia Al Said).

He explained Omar’s return to the elite

Omar has been out of print since the end of Season 5, marked by the death of another historical character, Samuel (Itzan Escamilla). A young man meets a tragic end after discovering evidence that incriminates Benjamin (Diego Martín), the principal of Las Enchinas High School, and Ari (Carla Diaz), Mencia (Martina Carridi) and Patrick (Manu Rios).

  • Tonight on Netflix: a sexy series that will surprise you!

Faced with the fait accompli, Benjamin violently attacks Samuel. During the fight, the young man fell into the swimming pool and the director left him for dead. The police then arrive, Benjamin is arrested, and Samuel’s friends mourn him, especially Omar, who was very close to him. Samuel’s death prompts him to give up everything.

But now we find him at the beginning of Elite Season 7, and we can tell he’s in bad shape. Starting a new life at university, far from Las Encinas, can’t turn the page. Still very present, the guilt she feels over Samuel’s death and the suffering born of that period drives her to therapy.

We also find out that she is living with one of her new friends, Dalmar (Ivan Mendes), but above all, she has a new boyfriend named Joel (Fernando Lindes). The latter is a waiter in his spare time, but wants to return to his studies.

A chance meeting with Ivan (Andre Lamoglia), still reeling from his car accident and bruised by the death of his father Cruz (Carloto Cotta), will change Joel’s life as Ivan decides to pay for his tuition at Las Encinas.

But Omar doesn’t see this possibility very positively, because he’s traumatized by everything he went through in that facility, and he doesn’t want Joel to go through the same thing, nor do he have associates that could have disastrous consequences. Especially since Joel and Ivan became dangerously close to each other…

Omar then uses his training project – an anonymous chat app to help disadvantaged youth – to return to Las Encinas and “monitor” Joel as well as confront his demons. On her journey, the community also follows the suffering of other students in this seventh season of Elite, which puts mental health at the center of her concerns, which many ignore out of fear or ignorance.

As co-creator Carlos Montero explained SensaCine, “Mental health is fundamental this season”. And Omar’s return allows us to address this important issue in the series:

“Mental health is a theme that affects not only Omar, but all the characters. We see them more fragile than usual and we see how they hide their suffering behind the party and the fun side. We finally see them more vulnerable and human. Asking for help process”.

While Omar’s character is important in Season 7, his return was not certain, as his interpreter Omar Ayuso explained in an interview. GQ :

“Honestly, I thought my departure from the show was forever. I left to come back. I needed to go, reset and change things. The year I was not on Elite was probably one of the most difficult and important. I needed to focus on my personal approach outside of work.

Later, on the train to the Malaga festival, the creators jokingly asked me to come back, and then after a few jokes, it was over. I’m enjoying shooting this season more than ever, I have a dream partner and directors who care about me. What more can I ask for? In addition, I love the whole team of the series very much.”

Omar’s return also allows us to set up the return of another iconic character in Elite Season 8, which is officially the last. That character is none other than Omar’s sister, Nadia (Mina El Hamman). What does he have in store for us in the final episodes?

Elite Season 7 is available in its entirety on Netflix.
