In 2021, playwright Florian Zeller steps behind the camera for the first time to bring his own play to the screen. In The Father, led by Anthony Hopkins’ incredible Oscar-winning performance, the aspiring filmmaker brilliantly tackles the delicate subject of senile dementia.

A year later, he continued on this path with another adaptation of his play. under the name sonIt is especially close to the heart and this time it deals with the hot topic of adolescent depression.

The story is the story of 17-year-old Nicholas, who is completely adrift. Overwhelmed by the situation, her mother agrees to let her move in with her father, Peter. Recently remarried and the father of a new baby, the latter will try to overcome misunderstanding, anger and helplessness in hopes of finding his son.

Less labyrinthine than FatherDze adopts a sober and frontal staging that emphasizes the power of interpretation. Starting with Hugh Jackman, masterful as a torn and helpless father in the face of his son’s illness.
