Negotiations to end the Hollywood strike will resume. The information was confirmed by the US actors union (SAG-AFTRA). The sector’s strike, the longest since 1980, has lasted for more than 100 days.
After a period without talks, the actors’ union will meet this Tuesday (24th) with the main US studios. The information comes from Omelette.
Representatives of the strikers confirmed the meeting in an official statement sent to the actors. According to information gathered behind the scenes, the resumption of talks came after intense pressure from a group led by some of the biggest names in Hollywood, such as George Clooney and Scarlet Johansson.
It is clear that the strength and solidarity shown by our members has sent a clear message to the CEOs. As we have said many times, we are ready, willing and able to commit at any time to come together and work to reach an agreement that is worthy of your sacrifice. SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP will meet for negotiations on Tuesday, October 24 at SAG-AFTRA Plaza. Several executives from AMPTP member companies will be present.
Hollywood Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA), in a statement
On October 11, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) surprised SAG-AFTRA by announcing a pause in negotiations. The argument supporting the decision was that the parties were simply too far apart on key issues.
Studio executives were quite annoyed that four of Hollywood’s top executives had spent five full days in negotiation sessions with the artists’ union without being able to agree on the actors’ key demands.
