!UFA! Manchester United beat Copenhagen 1-0 this Tuesday (24th) at Old Trafford, in a match valid for the third round of Group A of the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League. Harry Maguire scored the winning goal for the Red Devils in Manchester and goalkeeper André Onana saved the English team from a late draw by saving a penalty.

It was the first triumph for the team led by Erik ten Hag in the current edition of the Champions League. In the first two rounds, United had lost to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray. The Red Devils reach the three points and leave the bottom of the group with Copenhagen, who have only one point.

THE GAME

Before the ball rolled, Old Trafford experienced emotional moments with tributes to Sir Bobby Charlton, who passed away last Saturday (21st) at the age of 86. The former player established himself as a Manchester United legend, thanks to the titles won and for having survived the Munich tragedy, a plane crash that affected the English team in 1958.

In a difficult match characterized by few scoring opportunities, Manchester United, pushed by the Old Trafford fans, opened the scoring in the 27th minute of the second half. Eriksen receives it on the right and crosses just enough for defender Harry Maguire to appear at the far post as a center forward and score the winning goal in Manchester.

In the final moments of the duel, McTominay committed a penalty, in stoppage time. When it looked like it was going to be another frustrating night for Manchester United this season, goalkeeper André Onana shone and saved the penalty, taken by Larsson. Shortly after the defense, the referee ended the match.

Manchester United and Copenhagen will face each other again on November 8th, at 5pm (Brasilia time) in Denmark, in a match that will count for the fourth round of Group A of the UEFA Champions League.
