Mike Flanagan, creator of the hit horror series The Haunting of Hill House (2018), The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020) and The Midnight Club (2022), recently released another miniseries on Netflix, The Fall of House of Usher . The production is based on the story of the same name written by Edgar Allan Poe, and also references elements of other stories by the author.
In addition to the miniseries, there are other productions based on Poe’s literature, such as the one with the same name as the story, released in 1928 and directed by Jean Epstein, or the one entitled The Maldito Manor, from 1960, directed by Roger Corman, each with own interpretation of the same story.
In Poe’s tale, Roderick Usher calls a childhood friend when a mysterious illness afflicts him and his twin sister. In Epstein’s version, the Ushers are a couple, husband and wife, and in Corman’s version, Philip Winthrop, the narrator. , is Madeline Usher’s husband and his marriage is not well accepted by her brother. But in the end, they all describe the downfall of the Usher family.
