The month of October is one of the most awaited by lovers of horror films and stories. During it, several such productions are launched, while classic films and series are remembered in lists and specials.
Halloween has become increasingly popular in Brazil and is celebrated with themed parties, full of creative costumes and tricks.
To celebrate the date in a non-traditional way, we have prepared a list of eight horror films that go beyond the obvious, to watch alone or in company. Watch!
8. The Landlord (2006)
The South Korean science fiction, drama and horror film tells the story of a family fighting to save their youngest daughter, who has been kidnapped by a mutant monster living on the Han River in Seoul.
In addition to horror, the film tackles issues such as environmental pollution, government corruption and the relationship between man and nature, through a realistic and exciting approach.
7. Don’t Speak Evil (2021)

The production is capable of leaving the viewer tense from start to finish, as it follows a Danish family who, while on holiday in Italy, meets a Dutch family.
They both become fast friends, until things start to get weird after the Dutch invite them to spend a few days at their house. The film received good reviews from critics and is considered one of the best of 2022.
6. Nightfall (2017)

Trey Edward Shults’ film is not the kind of film that features jump scares, but the suspenseful atmosphere is built through the feeling of “fear of the unknown”.
In the plot, Paul lives with his wife and son in a lonely and mysterious house, until a desperate family appears asking for refuge. Little by little, paranoia and distrust towards strangers increase.
5. The Invitation (2015)

The summary synopsis found on the internet is perhaps not very attractive, since it talks about a man who accepts an invitation to dinner at his ex-wife’s house, which reopens old wounds and creates new tensions.
However, the film is full of tension and suspense, managing to maintain the attention of the viewer despite its duration of almost two hours.
4. Babadook (2014)

The official synopsis of the film is about Amelia, a single mother tormented by the death of her husband, who tries to deal with the irrational fear of her son, who believes there is a monster lurking in the house.
Like the others on the list, the film isn’t very scary, on the contrary. The story brings to light delicate and important issues, such as depression and grief.
3. The Secret of the Shack (2012)

The story tells of five friends who go on holiday to a cabin in the mountains, where they discover an old diary in the cellar, which they begin to read. Gradually, they believe they are surrounded by the supernatural, soon realizing that there is much more going on.
The film aims to bring together several clichés of horror cinema, but in a different way, bringing them all together in a single work.
2. Evil (2021)

The film is directed by James Wan, responsible for blockbusters such as The nun, Evocation AND Deadly games. In Maligno, Madison is a woman who begins to have terrifying dreams in which people are brutally murdered.
Over time, he ends up discovering that, in reality, the dreams are visions of crimes as they happen.
1. Bloody Wedding (2019)

To close the list, a film for those who prefer something funnier, but without leaving out blood and a lot of tension. In it, a young bride takes part in a traditional ceremony held by her new husband’s eccentric and wealthy family.
Tradition, however, is a lethal game, in which everyone must fight for their survival, including her.
