How did the Maine shooting go? On Wednesday, around 7 pm (Brasilia time), the suspect identified as Robert R. Card shot customers of two establishments, a bar-restaurant and a bowling alley, in the city of Lewiston, Maine.
What is the number of victims? 18 deaths were confirmed by US authorities, another 13 were injured. Of the 18 deaths, seven were murdered in the Just-in-Time bowling alley (one woman and six men). In the bar-restaurant, seven men were shot dead inside the restaurant and one outside. Three other victims were taken to hospital, but did not survive.
Who is the suspect? Robert R. Card, 40, is an Army reservist and marksmanship instructor. Second CNN, enlisted in 2022, flew no combat missions and received numerous military awards. In the army he served as an oil supply specialist. He also has a history of mental illness and spent two weeks in a psychiatric facility this year. The suspect’s identity was discovered thanks to security cameras and after identifying an abandoned white van about ten kilometers from Lewiston. The vehicle belonged to card.
What is the city of the attack like? Lewiston is Maine’s second largest city, with a population of 37,000. The state has a long-standing culture of gun ownership and does not require gun licenses. However, it seems one of the safest in the United States. The attack is the second deadliest in the country’s history.
