Leclerc wins pole and guarantees Ferrari the front row in the Mexican GP

The starting grid for the Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix was set on Saturday. This time, Charles Leclerc was the fastest and secured pole position for Sunday’s race by closing his best lap in 1 minute 17 seconds 166 .

Ferrari’s celebration was even bigger as Carlos Sainz, Leclerc’s teammate, secured second place by running a time of 1’17’223. The Spaniard will therefore start on the front row together with his teammate.

Three-time world champion Max Verstappen clocked 1min17s263 and will start third. Daniel Ricciardo (4th), Sergio Pérez (5th), Lewis Hamilton (6th), Oscar Piastri (7th), George Russell (8th), Valtteri Bottas (9th) and Guanyu Zhou (10th) finished the top 10.

In Q1, Logan Sargeant had his lap canceled and will start last in Mexico City. Those eliminated in the session were Lando Norris (19th), Lance Stroll (18th), Kevin Magnussen (17th) and Esteban Ocon (16th).

In Q2 Sainz almost got into trouble, but managed to qualify. The one who got hurt was Alexander Albon, who had a lap canceled after the end of the session and finished in 11th place. In addition to the Thai, Yuki Tsunoda (15th), Fernando Alonso (14th), Nico Hulkenberg (13th) and Pierre Gasly (12th) also remained out of the final round.

The Mexican GP at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is scheduled to start at 5pm (Brasilia time) this Sunday.
