Flamengo have been defeated in the second instance by the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), in an appeal in which the club seeks a sum of 3.5 million from the Federal Government. According to ‘O Globo’, the club claims that the transfers from the Profut program were made improperly.
The profit is a mechanism to renegotiate the teams’ debts with the Union: Flamengo claims that the Caixa Econômica Federal would have transferred the amounts directly through the National Treasury, when theoretically the club should receive from Timemania. In this trial, the charges were apparently framed improperly.
The government claims that there was only one error worth R$150,000. The second STJ jury voted against the club, which is now appealing this trial for the second time. With this, Flamengo has accumulated two defeats at the Federal Court of Rio de Janeiro.
The club had already lost at STJ with the decision of the speaker Francisco Falcão. “The Court of origin analyzed the main controversy of the case, taking into account the facts and evidence relating to the matter,” the speaker argued. His vote against was followed by all the other ministers
