Sophie Cross on France 3: Why the two-year wait between seasons 1 and 2?

On November 23, 2021, France 3 broadcast the final episode of the first season of Sophie Cross. A twist-filled finale in which the heroine, played by Alexia Barlieu and her husband Thomas (Thomas Juanetti), takes a new path that allows them to find Arthur, their son who disappeared more than three years ago.

And after almost two years of waiting, France 3 will finally broadcast the first 90-minute episode of Sophie Cross season 2 this Tuesday, October 31 at 9:10 p.m.

Why was there so much time between the two seasons of Sophie Cross?

Contacted by France 3, it has been revealed that several elements have delayed the production and broadcast of Sophie Cross season 2. The first reason is related to the production of the detective series, which is an international co-production between the France.tv studio, Les Gens (De Mensen group), NDF International Productions, ARD Degeto and RTBF.

Therefore, the chronology differs from the national fiction, because several teams must be coordinated. Another reason, Season 2 began filming in September 2022, a year after the first burst of episodes. So it makes sense that the series took a while to reach our television screens.

That is why, in order to keep the viewers waiting, France 3 chose to re-broadcast the episodes of the 1st season in order to be able to immediately follow the new episodes. A profitable bet for the channel after re-broadcasting the finale of the first season this Thursday, October 12, gave the channel the number one audience for that evening with 2.8 million subscribers.

What can we expect in season 2?

Sophie and Thomas now have a name: “Celine Chassan”, from whose clutches they managed to rescue young Sebastien Detieges at the last minute with the help of Commissioner Lecomte’s teams.

More than ever, the hope of finding Arthur alive drives them. Together, Thomas and Sophie will do anything to find their son, even though they have to solve very unique criminal cases in parallel with this vital search.

The entire team of investigators must show ingenuity and solidarity. Amina and Freddy’s romance will turn out to be serious, and Gabriel will meet an old acquaintance on the way…
