For several years, the news continued to inspire screenwriters. After Dahmer on Netflix, Une Affaire Française on TF1 or even Oussekine on Disney +, it is now the turn of France 2 to offer Sambre, a poignant mini-series that revisits the disgusting story of the Sambre bully.
Directed by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, who was already famous for Laet’s origins, this 6-episode play is loosely inspired by Alice Gerault’s research for her book. Sambre. News Radioscopy, published in January 2023 by JC Lattès. The latter also co-wrote the series with Marc Herpus (Les Témoins).

Sambre started in 1988. In northern France, women are raped early in the morning, always in the same way, on the same road along the Sambre River. Police do not capture the extent of these attacks and do not contact all victims.
The justice system is overloaded with cases. It will take thirty years to catch a man who never stops attacking women and who is responsible for at least 54 rapes or sexual assaults.
On the casting side, Alix Poisson, featured in Jeux d’influence and Parents instruction manual, plays Christine Labot, one of the first victims of a bully who will take years to speak out about her assault.
It is Jonathan Turnbull (Sentinels) who has the difficult task of slipping into the skin of a criminal. The cast includes Olivier Gourmand, Julien Frieson, Noemi Lvovsky, Clemens Poesy (who is currently starring in The Walking Dead spin-off, which has caused quite a stir among internet users) and Pauline Parrigaud.
