Candice Renoir: After the Halloween special, a musical episode for the France 2 series? Raphael Lenglet (Antoine) votes!

On Monday, October 30, 2023, France 2 offers Candace Renoir fans the opportunity to see a new television film from the collection around the series from 9:10 p.m. After the first part in Corsica, our hero (still playing the role of Cecil Boyce) is now a financial investigator and is bored there. As Halloween approaches, he accompanies Antoine in picking pumpkins to please his daughter, Suzanne.

Attracted by a witch-run jam stand, Candace forgets to watch the baby, and seconds later, the baby is kidnapped, in front of Susan, by Jack Lantern, horror!

A high-stakes investigation, celebrated on Halloween night and surrounded by masks: Satanism, spiritualism, family failure, leads are numerous and strewn for Candace. due to the obstacle of not having the right to the land.

Because even if everything goes back to the candy factory, financial is not BSU. Challenging and life-changing in perspective? Raphael Langle, who plays Antoine, also directed this special episode. For AlloCiné, the actor returns to this particular shoot in many aspects…

AlloCinĂ©: How are Candice and Antoine pairing in this new TV movie “Candice Renoir”?

Raphael Langley: I get the impression that the writers are afraid to put them together! They always put obstacles in their way. They’re afraid of Claire de Lune syndrome, it seems… This episode shows that living with Candy isn’t easy! Antoine lives there without really living there, managing his daughter Suzanne at the same time as his ex. Candace also discovers a little more about her role as stepmother.

How does filming work for you when you are an actor and director?

Authors usually cut me loose by cutting out as much of the story as possible. It was clear from the beginning that I would be very much in the image. We tried to create a work plan to free myself as much as possible to just be a director sometimes. But out of twenty days, I think I had fifteen actor-director days. It’s huge! Apart from that, we had to manage difficulties like the number of actors, children, shooting at night, heat…

There is a lot of work on lighting and costumes in this Halloween episode. I really like horror movies. I had a lot of references for situations and at the same time, I had to be in the frame of “Candice”. I wanted each scene to be a different little candy, like a Halloween box, actually.

Was it seeing yourself in Halloween costumes?

Yes! But probably I shouldn’t have shown my disguise to Cecile (laughs) she wasn’t surprised… she was very beautiful in her costume anyway!

At one point in the TV movie, Antoine finds himself completely vulnerable and desperate. Was this scene particularly challenging for you as an actor?

It was not written like that at first. I found Antoine’s reaction to be very predictable. I must have been in intense, genuine emotion. I have to try to live this moment with as much sincerity as possible… After I have managed the duties of the director, to put everything in place and so on. He had a bit of a schizophrenic side to him, but since I have a bit of multiple personality, that helped. (laughs)

There is also a note at the end of this episode Solenn Roy-Pagenaud, creator of Candace Renoir, who died in February 2023. Was this tribute important to you?

Of course. It was his episode, he wrote very, very sick towards the end… Solen obviously wrote me because he knew my taste in genre cinema. He knew that if there was a Halloween episode, it was for me! We tried to make a TV movie that respected his text as much as possible.

Respect was hard for me because obviously Halloween is very macabre. It was hard to pay tribute to Solenn during the episode, but I had this idea of paying homage by removing all references to Halloween at the end. I did it to honor his memory, his family, the team, everyone.

Do you like the format of the new “Candy Renoir” collection?

quite. At one point, it was believed that the series would move to Marseille, and to be honest, I had some hesitation. Besides, it was revealed to me. It was a reboot of the series in another city. I didn’t care about that, and neither did Cecil. I don’t think it worked.

After all these years, what is your relationship with Cecil Boy?

We did some promotion yesterday… I don’t think it aired because we laughed so much! As soon as it gets a little serious, we show humor and delicacy… (laughs) The press officer was a bit upset, but yes, we laugh a lot.

What would they want for a possible third part?

If there was a third TV movie, I don’t know what it would be. We want it to be a musical episode! I adore him. There are people who sing badly and dance badly but have made a career. why not ? (laughs)
