Life can sometimes be surprising in Un si grand soleil!
Janet (Tonia Kinzinger) and Father Silvio (Marcel González), who are close after the priest’s hospitalization, spend more and more time together. And the death of Jessica, the victim of young homeless Buddha Blue, promises to bring them even closer during the next episodes of the France 2 daily soap opera.
If the doctor and the clergyman had so far resisted their attraction to each other, they could well be tempted.
Catching up with Tonya Kinzinger, Janet Lewis’ translator, at the La Rochelle Fiction Festival a few weeks ago, she spoke with Allocine about what’s in store for her character in the coming weeks.
Allociné: Going back to the beginning of the adventure Un si grand soleil, what did you like about the role of Janet?
Tonya Kinzinger : When I was sent the character sheet, Janet was a health professional much more interested in illness than patients. He didn’t show much sympathy. His team feared him, but he was always there to protect them. I really liked this resistance. In the beginning, Janet was much tougher than she is today. At one point the production asked me to tone it down because it shocked people a bit by seeing me so tough.
So Janet opened up and showed a little more compassion for others. It was with the arrival of her daughter that we discovered the Achilles heel of this very strong, very professional and very supervised woman. It is here that we learn that he chose a profession instead of fighting for his daughter. It was important to reveal that Janet was not a very good mother.
Janet recently became close to Father Silvio. Could she succumb to the priest’s charms?
First of all, I found the writing of this ark very well done. Father Silvio is not a patient like others. First, he is a doctor like Janet. They have this complicity. Worked in humanitarian medicine, which Janet always dreamed of. They share many things, books, music, philosophy. So Janet lets him guard because he’s a priest. There is no danger. A woman dealing with a priest does not behave the same way as a man who is not devoted to God. At first, he really treats her like a patient. There is no ambiguity on his part. He does, but Janet can’t see it.
It’s only when Father Silvio admits that he has feelings for her that Janet sees him differently. She develops real feelings for this man. Although everything is going well in her relationship and she loves her husband more than anything, she lets herself go. In a moment of weakness, Janet comforts him and gives in to temptation. This is not trivial. He will have to live with what he did. She is not necessarily guilty, but she does not want to hurt the man she loves.
So Janet hides the truth from Becker (Yvonne back). I imagine this will at least create some tension in their relationship?
Father Silvio will be involved in a big story. It will be very difficult for Jeanette to hide this. Anyway, he continues to hide it. I haven’t read the following scripts yet, so I don’t know what Janet will do next.
Could it be considered that the Becker couple is in danger?
The couple may be in danger. But what’s beautiful about this story is that Becker has the intelligence to feel things. When he asks her to spend more time with him and proposes something completely insane, he will do it. I think that if he hadn’t made it at that time, he would have made a different decision. So he will do anything to save the marriage.
When you read the script, were you surprised to discover that your character was going to have an affair with a priest?
This made me laugh because in “Under the Sun” my character had an affair with a priest. He was Jessica’s ex-husband, so it was totally different, but I just thought, ” What is it about me that inspires authors to write me such things?(laughs). Especially since it doesn’t happen every day.
Aside from that story, what’s in store for Janet in the coming weeks?
There are little things. There are new characters that will arrive at the hospital. There will also be tension between Janet and Becker that has nothing to do with Father Silvio’s story.
We finally know a little about Janet’s past. Would you like writers to take a look at this? Is it already planned?
I hope so and I think so. Olivier Schulzinger, the creator of the series, also told me that we were going to dig into the history of this character. Until now, we’ve only seen Janet as the head of a hospital ward or as Baker’s wife. Janet has no friends. She trusts no one except her husband and even then. So for the moment, we’re really on the surface. There are so many possibilities for the future.
