Did you know that the pair of friends Chandler-Monica (Matthew Perry-Courtney Cox) was born completely by chance and thanks to society? It was the co-creator of the series, Martha Kaufman, who revealed this information about the Geller-Bing couple on the show Friends: The Reunion:
Matthew Perry: His latest prank on Friends is particularly touching
One of the times we listened to people’s reactions the most was when Monica and Chandler were caught in bed together during filming in London.
During this scene, which appears in Season 4, Episode 24, Chandler and Monica are in London and sleep together for the first time, narrowly escaping being caught by Ross, Monica’s brother. And during their bed scene, the audience watching the filming went crazy, as series co-creator David Crane recalls:
“We were completely taken aback. He was crazy. So we let it happen. (…) I think that’s when we started rethinking the Monica-Chandler relationship, because from the beginning we were planning a little adventure in London, but let it be short and then have fun. For a moment on the subject of “Oh my God, what have we done?”
Here is the famous “London sequence”:
“Taking into account the response of society”Kaufman explains, We understood that it was passed and must be taken into account. It was the end of the season, so we would have had time to think and come up with ideas, but it was such an important event that we knew it had to be explored as deeply as possible.”
Have you already noticed that wink in the middle of the series credits?
The team then delights in keeping their relationship a secret, setting off a sequence of misunderstandings perfect for a sitcom. Obviously, as fans already know, Monica and Chandler are discovered by their friends (S05E14), then get married (S07E24) and adopt twins (S10E18)!

Chandler-Monica’s first kiss
All this story, so the fans owe it to the good reaction of the sitcom audience, because at that time the comedy series of the American channels were filmed in front of the audience, whose reactions were recorded to become the famous “recorded” laughter”, which have now completely disappeared from the landscape (and that’s why)!
Most recently, Matthew Perry was one of the first friends to leave us on October 28th. He was 54 years old. His pals, who are cast members of the series, say they are “devastated” and will soon speak out to pay tribute to their pal.
