When and where will the Dune series be released?
Even before Denis Villeneuve’s Dune reboot began in 2019, HBO Max announced its desire to produce a spin-off series. Once called “Brother,” it is now called Prophecy.
According to the latest rumors, Dune: Prophecy will be released on the streaming platform in the fall of 2024. Its release was delayed due to various production issues. Jon Spaiths, who co-wrote the film’s reboot, had to work on the screenplay before taking care of the second installment. A spot that was later given to Diane Ademu-John (The Haunting of Bly Manor). Although we thought the project was on track, the director ultimately abandoned ship in November 2022.
Warner also decided to change its strategy after the writers and actors strike in Hollywood by pushing back the release of Dune 2 to March 2024. Accordingly, the prequel series will be released after the second opus, which Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya will perform.
What will the series Dune be about?
In a future where humanity has traveled across a galaxy of a thousand planets, a mysterious sorority called the Bene Gesserit navigates the political struggles and imbroglios of the Imperium, pursuing a very specific goal that will lead its members to mysteries. Dune Planet…
As the synopsis suggests, Dune: Prophecy will focus on the Bene Gesserit and is based on the novel The Sisterhood, written by Kevin J. By Anderson and Brian Herbert (son of Frank Herbert). The novel tells the genesis of this society of women who possess mystical and political arts. The action takes place 10,000 years before the events of Denis Villeneuve’s film.
Who will we see in the series Dune?
Since it takes place thousands of years ago with the Dune movies, we (logically) don’t get to see the cast. Namely, Rebecca Ferguson (Dame Jessica), a member of Bene Gesserit and the mother of hero Paul Atreides (Chalamet).
The cast of Dune: Prophecy is already known. We will find actresses Emily Watson (Chernobyl) and Olivia Williams (The Crown) who will play the Harkonnen sisters, the ones who found the Bene Gesserit. Travis Fimmel (Vikings) plays Desmond Hart, a charismatic soldier with a mysterious past who tries to win the Emperor’s trust at the expense of the sororities.
The cast also includes Jodie May (The Witcher) and Mark Strong (Kingsman).
