A relatively difficult to decipher inscription on the Mirror of Erisid, a rather suspicious blonde wig on Professor Gilderoy Lockhart’s desk, a rather unusual “cameo” of Norbert Scamander on the Marauder’s map, or even a wink. Starbucks company logo on black tapestry…
Like pop culture sagas like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings or the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Harry Potter hides a lot of little details in the more or less well-hidden 8 feature films that make it up.
If most of these elements are supposed references or hidden appearances of characters from the magical saga, others may be more like false connections or unintentional mistakes on the part of the filmmakers. Others are completely mysterious and no one knows why they are there.
It’s a case of the little details we care about today, as we present the start of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the third installment in the franchise, tonight on TF1. Undoubtedly more imperceptible than anything we’ve talked about so far, it will appear on your screen in just a split second.
If you hope to see it, you have to press pause very precisely at 16 minutes and 54 seconds of the movie, and above all, don’t blink! In the scene where Mr. Weasley takes Harry to his side and tells him that Sirius Black is looking for him, pay close attention to the bottom of your screen, under the bottom right corner of the wanted poster. You will notice that the number “302” appears very hidden (see above).
Is this a subliminal message slipped in here by film crews? And if so, what does it matter? Or is it more of a simple mistake that the editors forgot in the final version of the feature film?
The latter hypothesis seems the most logical, given that the number disappeared in the later HD versions of the film. Still, this phenomenon is rare enough to pique our curiosity, and it’s fun to note that even imagining the magnitude of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban isn’t immune to such a small error.
